WOW. This essay woke me right up this morning! First, the hook for me was my immediate memory of my beloved friend, Doris, who passed away at 94 years old. I admired her daily routine. The way she “hummed” around her house as you say. She was so engaged in life until the day she died. I’ve always said I want to be like Doris when I am old.

Second, your use of female warriors and heroines grounds your point. They are so fascinating to me!

And lastly, your statement, “rest without responsibility is avoidance” rings true for me as I grapple with some challenging family/parenting dynamics. I love when I read something and it helps me to better understand why I feel the way I do.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you!
